Betta with White Eyes

This is what the betta looked like when I got him. I thought he was just a almost white betta.  

Now his eyes just look they pop out of his head with the white around them. 

 

 

In the pictures above this one I had to cut back those small plants because of the brown algae I had. And now they have grown back nicely. Mainly because of these I put in the tank. 

They are Nature NPOD Underwater planter by Live With Nature.

I love fish tanks but this was a birthday present for my Mom in June. And she loves it but I keep it looking pretty. Maybe when I move I'll get a tank going again for myself. 

I've been kind of busy. But I did finish the tank. I had to use cork in the spigot b/c there was a light drip. Those are olive snails in the tank with the beta. I did have an algae problem but got it in check I think. :)

Planted with water!

Java Moss Ball used the mesh that came off of a bag of rocks from the craft store I saved. 

Used a zip tie then cut the end off. 

For the plants I got these tweezers. 

The base is just a plant saucer and some of this to make it glossy, 

In the gravel I also have root tabs and Flourish Excel

 I still have to do my diy lid. Then in a month or two I will add the ghost shrimp then the betta. :)

Water Test and Heater

Well I have no water leaks around where the spigot is, but the spigot dribbles water. So I put some sealant around the little rubber seal on the inside of the spigot. Even though the spigot is sealed I can still unscrew the spigot off. So going to wait till maybe Sunday again to see if it leaks there. :( More waiting.....

I exchanged the original heater I purchased through Amazon, thanks to Amazon Student Prime they did not even want that heater back. LOL. Anyway I went with this one below, Cobalt Aquatics Neo-Therm Heaters with Plastic LED, 25-Watt

I have it in another glass container now maybe almost 2 gallons, and the water is already heated to 78 degrees. It was not that cheap but it is really thin and not that long. So it really fits perfect in a small tank. It was not cheap, it was $36.38. But I think it was worth it and the betta will be happy.

Pimping out the Spigot

I replace the original plastic spigot with this nice stainless steel spigot. Then I put the elbow PVC piece at the end and in the picture below I will screw on the straight piece of PVC with the pre-filter. I will also sew the end closed with fishing light once the silicone rubber sealant cures. In about 48 hours from now I can test and make sure I don't have any leaks. Cross my fingers! :). 

And today I finally got the sponge filter you can see in the picture below how big it is. ***If you do get this mason jar dispenser be very careful when tightening the pieces on. This is the second one, the first one while I was testing out the pieces, the glass shattered when trying to get the pieces off. So keep the box and receipt just in case.  

Waiting for mini sponge filter

I am still waiting on the mini sponge filter from Amazon, must be coming from China. :( This weekend I should get to work on the tank. Ordered the same Filter from a different seller, then return the other one. :)

Modifying The Spigot

I am modifying the other end of the spigot so I can put a little more gravel above the spigot level. So I ordered Spears 808 Series PVC Pipe Fitting, 90 Degree Elbow, Schedule 80, 3/8" NPT Female and a

Spears 88 Series PVC Pipe Fitting, Nipple, Schedule 80, Gray, 3/8" NPT Male, 2-1/2" Length piece. 

You can see what they look like in the picture above and links for them. Make sure you pick the right size. I went to Lowe's but they did not have 3/8" size. But there was a very nice employee that helped me figure out just what I needed for this project. 

Then I have one of these to put on the end of the straight piece so when you use the spigot for partial water changes you don't hurt the betta or the few shrimp that will be in the 2 gallon tank. I will sew up the end with fishing line to close up the hole. 

Now I am waiting on one more piece to come in before I want to put these pieces together. The air powered sponge filter. Everything was Amazon Prime but that item and my Penn Plax Floating Aquarium Thermometer was broken. 

I will post a picture of this step when I am finished before I add anything else to the betta tank. Fixing this is making me want to get my 20 gallon going but have to wait on that. :(

YORKSHIRE 2 GALLON DISPENSER

I am going to turn this Yorkshire 2 Gallon Drink Dispenser into a little betta tank. The spigot that came with it just looks cheap and I don't want to have to replace it over time. So I ordered this nicer spigot from amazon. It was Amazon Prime so it arrived today. :) It's stainless steel and looks really sharp. 

I also got some aquarium silicone sealant but before I use that I'm waiting on my other items: the sponge filter, air pump, filter sponge(to go on the end where the spigot is), a small betta fish bowl heater, and the light. Before I seal the spigot on I am going to Lowes to look for an elbow piece and a straight tube to come up some so the gravel will not be in the way of the opening.
